Let’s be a little interactive. Go ahead and take out a piece of paper and something to write with. Have it out? Good! Let’s get started!
With this paper, I want you to plan your own surprise party! I know what you’re thinking…“Jenele, that sounds silly. I can’t plan my own surprise party because then it’s not a surprise!”
Well….do it anyway!
Where do you want it to be? Whom do you want to be there? What will it look like? What are you going to do while you’re there? How long will your party last? How are you going to get there? Write down every detail you can think of!
All done? Awesome! How silly was that?
That is how silly we look to God when we try to plan our own lives.
Planning a surprise party is stressful! If you’ve ever planned one, you know how much time it takes and how detailed and difficult it is! You have to coordinate with lots of people, order things, make things, plan things; it’s extensive! If we get stressed while planning surprise parties, imagine how stressed we would be planning our own life. It’s good that God already has the surprise party of your life planned out for you!
God has a surprise party planned for our lives that we have never even imagined. Surprise parties are so much better when they’re planned by a close friend or family member who knows you, aren’t they? You know the person put a lot of time and effort into planning your party. It shows you how much you are loved and how much the person would like to invest in you. Imagine that much love times infinity!
God knows you better than you know yourself, and He has a surprise party planned for you—for your life—that you could never imagine. And think how amazing you should feel, knowing God took the time to plan everything because He knows you the absolute best!
When I was in high school, I had my life all planned out. I NEVER dreamed that God had something a thousand times better for me. I’ve only just begun my surprise party!
God has given me my husband Anthony, moved us to Oregon, given me amazing students to teach, allowed me to serve in an incredible church, live in an adorable, cozy home, and have remarkable friends! I had no idea that God’s surprise party for me was going to be in Oregon with all of the outstanding people He “invited” (or placed in my life). It’s such an incredible thing when we surrender our will (our party plans) to God and let Him take care of everything.
So often we become cumbered about planning and detailing—especially if you’re ANYTHING like me. I feel as though I can be TOO detailed! But life is so much more beautiful when you allow God the control He WANTS! How simple is that?!
So sit back, relax, and let God take you to your surprise party! Do what you’re supposed to do now, and He will direct you where you need to be. Allow God, the best Party Planner ever, to plan your surprise party! It’s oh, so worth it!
