“Her children arise up, and call her blessed.…” (Proverbs 31:28) Every mom wants this verse to be about her someday. Here are a few Bible helps to reach that goal.

B–Be there—always. The Bible says in Matthew 28:20, “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” Be there during sickness and when they want to play. Help them with their homework and their science fair project. Take time to plant flowers and pick up sticks in the yard. Watch your children participate in sports and other activities. See their first step and photograph the first day they learn to ride their bike. Be a part of their life.

L–Love—unconditionally. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8) You may not approve of what they are doing, but they should know that mom loves them. Tell your children daily. Write them notes of love and call them often when they are away.

E–Encourage. “That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed.” (Romans 15:32) Be your children’s biggest cheerleader. Mom, be there when they fail. Brag on their character and accomplishments. Praise their faithfulness to church, Bible reading, and prayer. Encourage your child to try new activities.

S–Saviour. “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13) Make sure your child is saved. Celebrate his spiritual birthday. Listen to his testimony. Remind him of Calvary.

S–Submit. Mom, be able to sincerely say, “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.” (I  Corinthians 11:1) Little kids like to play “Follow the Leader”; so do big kids. What leader are you following so they can follow you? When you are submitted to Christ through your husband, your children have a wonderful model to follow.

E–Example. “As we have opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.” (Galatians 6:10) Teach your children how to be a blessing to others by being a blessing yourself. Bake for others and deliver the treats together. Visit a nursing home. Place the song books in the rack after each service. Sweep out the church bus or send cards to shut-ins. The earlier you set the example of doing for others, the better.

D–Demand their best. “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might.” (Ecclesiastes 9:10a) Demand jobs and school work to be their personal best. Expect their best behavior, best language, and best attitude.

Above all, pray for God’s wisdom and guidance as you rear your children. “Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.” (Proverbs 31:29)
